Where we are now: WMATA has just published its staff report on the October 11 Compact Hearing at which over 90% of the testimony opposed the EYA plan. Comments on the response are due by Septemebr 25 (or perhaps October 5), after which there will be a hearing before the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). We hope the FTA will refuse to allow WMATA to give up the potential of this land for so little return and such a non-transit-oriented plan.

Working to improve transit and transit access at Takoma Metro
Transit Oriented Develpment
should ENHANCE Transit, not just be NEAR Transit

What's wrong with the WMATA plan?
* Less parking; no shared parking for Takoma businesses.
* No room for significant bus service expansion.
* Poor handicapped access.
* Green buffers to protect neighbors are practically eliminated.
* Poor access to the Metropolitan Branch Trail.
* Buses, cars, and bicycles mix on the same road and even in the bus turnaround!
* Two-car garages next to Metro -- Is this transit-oriented?
